Proper skin care is necessary for everyone. If you have proper knowledge about your skin type then you can best take care of your skin. Which type of skin care products will suit you depends upon your skin type. Basically there are five types of skin.

1. Normal skin

If your is not too oily or not too dry then your skin type is normal. Normal skin type people have smooth texture, radiant  and vibrant complexion with fine pores. It is a blessed skin type as it is less problematic and needs less care. People with normal skin type look supple throughout the day.Skin problems like blemishes are not found in normal skin. Moisture content is well balanced. Young people often have normal skin.

2. Dry skin

Dry skin lack moisture and sebum content as there are almost invisible pores. People with dry skin have dull and rough complexion. It lacks elasticity with noticeable fine lines and wrinkles.Red patches, dry flakes, irritation may occur. Aging signs are early visible in dry skin type people. External factors like wind, sun or cold can also make skin dry.


3. Oily skin
Oily skin looks thick, shiny and greasy as it has enlarged pores. It is the more problematic. Skin problems like blemishes, pimples, acne, blackheads are most common because of overactive sebaceous gland. Oily skin is mostly found in adolescents. Oily skin is not much prone to aging.


4. Combination skin
In combination skin type nose, chin and forehead which is also referred as t-zone is oily and cheeks and eye areas are really dry. So people with this type of skin type are usually confused at what category of skin type they will put their skin on. If skin type changes according to season or climate then skin type will be placed under combination skin type. People with this skin type have oily skin in summer and their skin changes to dry in winter.


5. Sensitive skin
Sensitive skin is dry and gets easily inflamed by outer environment or various skin products. Skin becomes reddish and can be itchy. These flaky areas break into spots.It is the most problematic and needs special care.


Skin care

General skin care needs healthy eating, maintaining regular sleep, hydrating, avoiding sun exposure and exercise. Skin care products help to maintain healthy skin texture and complexion. Internal and external both factors influence skin texture. Internal factors are like genetic factors,¬† hormonal changes, aging. External factors are like sun exposure, climate, wind, and season. Skin products help to balance skin texture, neutralize free radicals and limiting signs of aging. It also counters hormonal changes. Proper skin care follows cleaning, toning, applying day cream during day time and applying night cream during the night. Skin care for different skin type is different. Skin care products designed for dry skin will not suit to oily skin type and not even to normal skin type. And in the same way, products for oily skin will not suit to dry skin type. Knowing one’s skin type and then using the right product is important here.


Skin care for normal skin

People with normal skin feel naturally moisturized. They don’t need to care much for their skin in comparison to other skin type people. They need skin products that are gentle and maintain normality of skin despite factors that lead to signs of aging.
Cleaning – For normal skin type, the water-soluble cleanser should be used. These kinds of cleanser not only cleans skin but also prevents moisture loss from the skin.
Toning- Toner should be used after cleansing. Toner removes traces of dirt. It also helps in maintaining pH of skin and tighten skin cells, thus preventing penetration of impurities into the skin. Toners for normal skin also moisturizes and refreshes skin.
Day cream – After toning, next step is the application of the cream. During daytime, day cream should be used as they contain SPF, which protects skin against harmful UV rays of the sun. They contain antioxidants to fight free radicals and ingredients like caffeine to make skin tone even. These creams are absorbed quickly.
Night cream – Night creams don’t contain SPF. They support skin regeneration process at night. Night creams for normal skin types contain moisturizing ingredients which make skin healthier after waking up in the morning.


Skin care for oily skin

Oily skin type people need to care their skin a lot. Oily skin is the problematic one as it is very prone to skin blemishes like acne, pimples, blackheads, etc. They have to clean regularly their face to remove excess oil. Since too much sebum content causes skin blemishes.
Cleaning – Cleaning regularly the face is the most important here. Cleansers should be water based and gentle. These cleansers remove excess oil from the skin but don’t dry the skin completely otherwise it may lead to irritation.
Toning- Toners used for oily skin should be alcohol-free and should contain antioxidants. Toners reduce the enlarged pores, thus reducing blemishes.
Day creams- Even if your skin produces oil that makes your skin look shiny then also you need moisturizers that make your skin look matte. During day time, even oily skin people also need sunscreen to avoid inflammation. So they should use day creams containing SPF.
Night creams- Oily skin needs extra care for their skin as they have enlarged pores. So night cream for their skin should contain ingredients which prevent clogging of pores and oil secretion. These night creams rejuvenate their skin at night and helps in oil controlling. Make skin supple, smooth and free of oil. When people with oily skin wake up at morning, they find their skin very oily and greasy. But regular using of night cream for oily skin, they find their skin oil free, glowing and beautiful after waking up in morning.

Dry skin needs to be moisturized on a regular basis. Otherwise, the skin will become drier and can be itchy, cause reddening of skin. Wrinkles appear early in dry skin people. Proper skin care with moisturizing agents helps in preventing dryness and wrinkles.
Cleaning – Cleaning with a well-moisturized oil based cleanser that contains substances like glycerin and ceramides, which readily cleanses skin but don’t remove natural oil secreted by the skin and not makes your skin dry after washing your face.
Toning – Toners for dry skin should be alcohol-free. It gently removes extra dirt from the skin and hydrates the dry skin.

Day creams – Dry skin people need moisturizers which also protect their skin from the sun. External factors like sun exposure and pollution lead to the removal of natural oil from skin, make the skin drier and may cause blemishes. Day creams should contain oil ingredients which moisturize skin during the day.
Night creams – Night creams for dry skin contain vitamin, antioxidants, and anti-aging ingredients which rejuvenate and nourishes skin during the night.

Skin care for combination skin

Combination skin neither comes under normal skin nor oily skin. Their t-zone that is their forehead, nose and chin are oily, but their cheeks and temples are dry. So they are confused that they should use skin products for oily skin or normal skin.
Cleaning – Combination skin type people should use water-soluble gel based cleanser to prevent irritation and dryness. It must be gentle and should not contain fragrance.
Toning – Toners must not contain irritants and should include antioxidants which refresh the skin and make it ready for usage of creams.
Day creams – Day creams for combination skin should provide intense hydration but also not making skin look greasy. It should contain antioxidants, SPF as well as moisturizing substances.
Night Creams – It is important to use a good night cream during the night as after getting up in the morning you get a fresh and glowing face. For combination skin type, this is a problem that after getting up either you get a super oily face or a very dull face. If you regularly use the night cream before going to bed, your this problem will be solved. A good night cream fights the free radicals and helps in preventing skin all day from sun exposure, pollution, stress and even skin aging..

Skin care for sensitive skin

People with sensitive skin should carefully choose their skin products as every product doesn’t suit them and cause inflammation, redness of the skin, itching and even flakes. Every product should be gentle, fragrance-free and alcohol-free to prevent irritation.

Cleaning – Cleansers that are water-soluble, oil free, fragrance-free and alcohol-free and gentle must be used. These cleansers don’t cause irritation.

Toning – Toners give a soothing effect to the skin should be irritants free. Toner is essential for the skin as it removes traces of dirt and even cleanser so sensitive skin is free from every impurities which may cause irritation.

Day creams – Day creams for sensitive skin has a light, a non-greasy and gentle formula that provides moisture and also help in protecting the skin from daily harassing sun exposure, pollution and stress. They have the cooling, soothing and calming effect and don’t clog pores so no further irritation.

Night creams – Night creams have a rejuvenating effect on moisturizing sensitive skin overnight without causing redness or irritation. They have anti-aging ingredients with soothing and calming effect.
